All'ingresso della chiesa settecentesca di Sant'Agata al Carcere spicca il prezioso portale decorato, una delle opere più interessanti dell'architettura medievale catanese. Secondo le fonti sembra che il portale costituisse, originariamente, la porta principale dell'antico duomo, poi distrutto dal terremoto del 1693; nel 1734 fu rimosso dal Vaccarini e trasportato nel palazzo Senatorio.
